New Computer Temperature

I just finished my computer and I went into BIOS and the CPU temp was at 47C and mobo at 41C. I am running an ASUS Athlon 64 4000+ CPU and an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 mobo. My room temp is a hot 27.7C

Is this a good temperature or should I be concerned?

Nothing wrong has happened, I was just wondering if this was a good temp.

I've got a Thermaltake case with 7 8mm fans. Do you think I need to get better fans or maybe it's my room temperature that is causing the high idle temp?

I'd say its your room temp, but mine idles are 32*c and load 40*c , and its about 70*F (~24*c?) in my room, and I only have 2 120mm case fans not counting the cpu fan and psu fan

With that temp I would try to aim for ~44*c idle , try switching your case fans around , 48*c is considered a "safe" temp, but is really not a good idle;)

Well I've found out that my CPU stays about 15*C above the room temp.

I think I'm gonna replace a few of the stock fans on my case and see if that helps the temp any.

The temp is fine considering the ambient room temp :)

Well, I did some research on the internet and I found out that Athlon 64 CPU's run on average from 45*-50*C. I don't know if that was idle temp or not.

My idle temp is anywhere from 40 - 45*C.

But I installed BF2 and ran it and the top temp I've got is 56*C. I think this is rather high. The CPU's highest temp it can handle is 70*C.

I think I'm going to get some new fans to cool it down a bit.

that sounds nice to me, mine is at 60C and all im doing is typing here. I dont think you have anything to worry about. What is it at full load?

I used the thermal pad and heatsink that came with the processor.

BF2 is as full load as I will probably get. It's usually at 98% when I play BF2, so 56*C is at full load.

Ok, so I started up my computer last night and the CPU temp was only 37*C with the mobo at 31*C. My room temperature was the same, yet my computer was running much cooler.

Do CPU's, or all computer hardware, run hotter at first but then after a few uses they cool down? Kind of like a break in period?

Because even at half load my CPU was only 45*C.

I dont know about that last post, but I got Arctic Silver (5 I think) and that cooled down my CPU about 10 degrees celcius. I have an Intel P4 3.0 GHz, but Arctic Silver would also work for AMD. When I was installing the fan/heatsink, i got my fingers all over the thermal pad (I didnt realize at the time that it was supposed to stay clean...) So that could have been why my CPU kept overheating.

Ya, we(my friend and I) didn't touch the thermal pad. We only really had the heatsink out in the open for maybe a minute before we attached it to the processor, so I doubt it got dirty.

My computer isn't overheating, I was just concerned about the heat in the beginning, but now I think I'm down to a normal temp. I think the thermal pad needed a break in period before it started working at top performance.

I'm still going to get better fans in my computer though.

So, I installed the new fans already (newegg is awesome!).

The idle temp is now 44*C and load temp is 52*C!

44*C is about the same idle as before, but the load is 10*C less than with the stock fans. I am going to experiment with the fan directions and see what will give me optimal cooling and I will probably also switch the stock CPU fan with a better one.

So are these temps more acceptable?

Remember that your mobo has a feature where the board will atuomatically adjust fan speed to find a medium between temp and noise... This is from the asus website:

" ASUS Q-Fan
ASUS Q-Fan technology intelligently adjusts both CPU fan and chassis fan speeds according to system loading to ensure quiet, cool and efficient operation."

Maybe this is the problem? And if it is, you might be able to tweak the settings in the bios.

I don't really have a problem anymore. The stock fans that came with my case were not made to handle higher end cpu's.

So after I replaced them, my load temp dropped to where it should be. So, there is no problem anymore, but I wouldn't mind dropping my temp some more. :)

Also the qfan does a great job of adjusting my fan speeds so my computer is quiet while idle...but I guess if I wanted my idle temp lower I could deactivate qfan and just have my fans run on full all the time....

Just an update...

I enabled Cool n' Quiet today and my idle temp has dropped to 37*C. Ya!

My mobo is still idleing at 41*C though, wonder why?

I'm still gonna get a new cpu fan to help with the temp even more.
