Hey guys, thinking about building this computer soon ! here is a list of the components will be using. do you guys reckon i could sell it for more that i bought it for ?

how would it peform etc ?

1. Overall, it is cheaper from Scan.

2. 970 isn't worth it, get a 955 and set the multiplier to the same as the 970 and you have a 970

3. AM3 is dual channel memory, the 3x2GB kit you picked out is designed for Intel socket 1366, which supports triple channel memory

4. CM Storm Scout or CM690 II will give you more case for your money than a HAF 922 will

5. I would get a 6870 rather than a 5850 for performance and for holding value

6. PSU: You can get a better unit for the price, and with a half decent case with good cable management solution, a non-modular unit would be just fine.

7. Do you need 2TB storage? If not, you can save a bit by getting a smaller drive. If you do need it, with the budget you have you can get an SSD + Storage drive, so can get a slower 2TB drive, which will be cheaper

8. The motherboard is overpriced, you can get a board for a fair bit cheaper that will perform just as well, and will have the same features.

With those points, using scan, I have put together another system than will perform as well with the main components, however has extras; those being CPU cooling and SSD:

Comes to a total of £910.55

~£30 cheaper than your build, but you will see faster boot times, better cooling, you will have a better case and will have a better power supply.

obviously i agree with getting the 955, the gigabyte board, and a 6870.

SSD = Solid State Drive, as opposed to HDD = Hard Drive Device

Hard Drives are what you are used to, they have the platter(s) holding the data magnetically, with the spindle to read off the platter(s). Although this is good for holding a lot of data, and is cheap to produce, because it is a mechanical component (motor for platter(s), motor for spindle) it uses more power, is louder, is slower, and is much more prone to failure than other components which don't move.

SSDs however use chips to hold the data, this uses less power, makes the drives more reliable, prevent fragmentation, but most importantly, makes the drives a hell of a lot faster, but also a hell of a lot more expensive.

Now although they are more expensive (a lot more expensive) than a standard HDD, the price that you pay reflects the performance that you get; you will get a much greater performance gain with an SSD than you will paying the same amount for a different component; SSDs speed up read/write/retreival speeds, so booting up your system, programs and games is almost instantaneous

You need the storage drive though because of the price. You get the SSD for your operating system and a few games/programs that you use regularly, and the storage drive for all files, folders, music, videos, other programs etc, and because it doesn't need the speed to just retrieve files and programs, you can get a "green" drive which are quieter, use less power, spin slower, and so last longer
 
ah ok. so because they are only 60gb i take iot i will just store my os, games and programmes on there ?

i am looking for 5-600.
please help me. i'm planning to play games like starcraft,lost plant 2

yep that is right. If you were to put files on there, say your music for example, because it doesn't take long at all to open music anyway, you would see hardly any performance difference, so it would be a waste of space. Same goes for programs that open quickly, or ones that you don't use often, for example office software only takes a second or two to open, so halving that time wouldn't make much difference at all. Your OS and games though will see a massive amount of difference, the OS will boot a hell of a lot quicker, and load times in games will be cut greatly

A 922 is pretty much identical to a CM II 690, but a few £ extra. I would still have the 690 over it for looks, larger holes for cable management, much better design on the hard drive cage and because it is slightly larger. They have the same spaces for fans, with the exception of the extra slot on the side of the 690 for a fan straight onto the CPU, and they both come with the same size/number of fans, but the HAF922 has LEDs on the front one
