New Computer won't recognize CD-ROM!!!Help!

So everything is set up all the BIOS are configured it's all up and running. I'm trying to install windows 7 and when I get into the BIOS screen it says
"Sata 1 ATAPI Incompatible." It is configured as CD-ROM in the bios and recognizes that's what it is, but it says "Not recognized" in the sata 1 above my hard drives which are both recognized. I know it's plugged in because it automatically said it was CD-ROM, but it just says it's incompatible. I also know the CD drive works because we just took it out of my friends computer to temporarily use in mine after he burned windows 7 for me on it. What am I doing wrong? Driving me nuts trying to get this bad boy up, but this is the only thing in my way. By the way I have an ASUS P6TD Deluxe MOBO. Thanks in advance.
 
oh also the Sata drives are IDE by default. I thought that may be the problem, but they are pre-configured as IDE so it should definitely be recognizing the drive.

I think the error message you see is generated by the early boot process of the Operating system trying to load (probably Windows). Windows has certain drivers "built in" to be able to use devices without external add-on drivers, and a way to handle ATAPI devices is among those. That way you can set your system to boot from an optical device as long as it conforms to the ATAPI standard. It looks like Windows went to the SATA_1 port expecting to find there an ATAPI-compliant device to try booting from, but failed to find such a thing. So it is telling you what it "found" was not ATAPI-compliant. It is alerting you and offering its standard alternative. You press the "F1" key and it will continue, probably by abandoning its try on SATA_1 and proceeding to the next possible device in your Boot Priority Sequence.

Check the Boot Priority Sequence in your BIOS Setup screens. Does it include trying to use something on SATA_1? Maybe you can fix this in two stages. First, set the Boot Priority to use only your HDD, and no later options. Save and boot from there. Then reboot into BIOS Setup and set your sequence again, this time inserting your real optical drive, wherever it is, before the HDD. Save and boot that way. See if that gets rid of your problem.
