New Computer

Hello, I'm building a computer for mostly work related reasons and maybe a little bit of light gaming and possibly watching some blu-rays.

I have picked out mostly everything I want and would just like to get a few opinions if i should upgrade anything or possibly downgrade if I don't really need it. Also need some help with what graphics card to go with and a decent power source.

Case: Coolermaster Haf 922 Mid Tower ATX Case Black 5X5.25 5X3.5INT Front Audio USB eSATA No PSU

Motherboard: Gigabyte P55-UD3R ATX LGA1156 P55 DDR3 2PCI-E 4PCI SATA2 RAID Sound GLAN Motherboard

Processor: Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.66GHZ 8MB Cache

Ram: G.SKILL F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL7-7-7-24 Core I5 Memory Kit

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green WD15EADS 1.5TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Solid State Disk: OCZ Agility Indilinx 30GB 2.5IN SATA2 Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD

Power Source:?
Graphics Card:?

Is it worth getting the SSD for installing the operating system on (windows vista 64bit/Windows 7 64bit)

PSU: Anything from corsair with 500+ watts
GPU: Radeon 4850

I believe you are going overboard with the HAF. There are better/cheaper cases around. The storm scout and sotrm sniper are good, along with the antec 900 and the antec 300. Another one would be the thermaltake v9. all of those are cheaper than the HAF i believe.

I wouldn't get a Caviar Green, unless you're just using for storage.
They're not as fast as Caviar Black's.

The computer you've put together will be plenty fast with the OS installed on a 7200 32Mb cache drive, but would be measurably quicker with an SSD, however probably not noticeably quicker.

These are what I would buy if I were doing this build. Not for necessity, but
for quality and performance.

Power supply:

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ($119.99)
($99.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate)

Graphics card:
XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB ($194.99)

i think the 4890 is overkill for him. and if he goes with a 4850, he could get away with a 600w PSU as well. and if he's really not doing a ton of gaming at all, even a 3870 would be enough for what he wants.

Like I said. :good:

i understand that, but it's quality and performance that he won't even notice. if he's doing day to day tasks, and business stuff, a 4890 is simply a waste of money. i guess it depends on what he means by "light gaming"

I'd rather not debate this.

I made my suggestions, you made yours.

Let's leave it up to the OP. :good:

i agree with droogie. a 4890 is NOT needed. save 100 dollars and get something nice for yourself. hell, send me that 100 dollars lol.

However unnecessary, that's what I would recommend. Spend a little more now while you're making the large purchase.

The extra $100 now averages out to about 9 cents a day over the next three years.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I will be making a few changes (Case, Hard Drive) and most likely go with the 4850 I seriously doubt I would need more than that. Appreciate the help:good:
