New computer

I'm thinking of getting a new computer, and I want to build one for the first time, although ready-built computers are getting ridiculously cheap with certain deals. Anyways, here's what I was thinking:

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Processor Socket AM2 Orleans 2.4GHZ 2000FSB 512KB L2 Cache 90NM

2 * OCZ Value Series PC2-5400 1GB 2X512MB DDR2-667 240PIN DIMM

Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G mATX AM2 GF6100 NF430 DDR2 PCI-E16 PCI-E1 2PCI SATA2 1394 GBLAN Motherboard

Samsung Spinpoint P Series 250GB SATA2 7200RPM 8MB 8.9MS FDB Hard Drive

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI 7.1 Surround Sound Card

Gigabyte NX66T256DE Silent Pipe II GeForce 6600GT 256MB 128BIT DDR2 PCI-E VGA DVI TV-OUT Video Card

SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5IN FLOPPY DRIVE

Foxconn TLM-454 16IN mATX Mid Tower Case 2X5.25 1X3.5 5X3.5INT Black Silver 400W 20/24PIN

LG GSA-H10N DVD+RW 16X8X16 DVD-RW 16X6X16 Dual Layer 10X/6X DVD-RAM 12X Writer 2MB Black

Samsung 52X32X52 CD-RW Drive IDE Black

In total, it cost me around $790, I'd like the price in that range. Are there any compatibility problems with my configuration (I'm new to building computers) and are there any possible changes I should make?

Thanks

if your building the computer for gaming then yeh it sounds good, i dont know about that video card though I would downgrade the CPU to like a 3500+ and get a better video card.

well, video card is not too bad, he can probabily run any games at this momment,,,, but he need a better cpu,,,
he is building a nice computer, but the cpu is too weak,
i mean socket am2!! its the opening of the future, too bad intel is being smarter though

anyways, if i were him, i would spend just bit more moeny on the cpu, get x2 3800, much better choice, you won't regret it...
dual core cpus!

with current games the benchmarks are not that good for dual core in games.

True, but things are certainly better and the dual core revolution isnt far away.

You defintily need to upgrade to X2 and you should do whatever you can to get a better GPU.

ok thanks for your help. I'd like to stick with the Athlon 3800+ single core, because there is a good deal for it now. Anyways, would this graphics card:

XFX GeForce 6800XTREME 350MHZ gpu 256MB 256BIT

be better than the 6600gt i had before? I was worried that the 6600gt would clutter my matx case, because a review I read said it was quite bulky.

Thanks

Btw, I'm building this computer for basic everyday use with some mild gaming if I have time, so I don't want to go overboard on a graphics card. I just want to make sure the rig can load and run most apps with no lag, and not take 2 min just to load xp.
