q6600, you can oc it to 3.0 ghz at least

I would agree.
Most people would tell you to go for the E8400 although I personally wouldn't since it's not quad. (i was going to get a Q6600 but it wasen't in stock at the time i built my computer) So go with the Q6600 like aSc1 said you can overclock it to 3Ghz easily. :)

Hope this helps. :)

It's easy, look into any guide and you will see exactly what to do. But if you really really really do not want to overclock, go for a E8400 seeing that if you compare them to eachother at stock speeds it will be faster.

Yup but if you want future proof or plan to do some sort of rendering go for the Q6600 or even the Q9450.

Hope this helps.:)

There is only one game out there currently that supports Quad Cores, HL2, and it's support is horrible. Take any game and run a Q6600 and E8400 against each other. The E8400 will come out on top. 2 cores supported, both faster than 2 of the Quad's, 45nm technology, cache, FSB, ect...

E8400. Quads may be the future, but not now, and probably not for a while. Q6600 for the heavy multitasker only.
