new CPU is not working in my mobo

I have a via p4pb 400 - yes, it is a little old, but it is still working like a champ. I found a couple of webpages with specs for it that stated it could power up to a 3.06 ghz cpu. I bought this cpu for it - found it in a working system, so I know it is good - but it does not work in my setup. It is also a socket 478 chip.

Are there different flavors of this chip? Do I have to monkey with the mobo switch settings? Right now I have a 2.4 ghz celeron in it and want to connect a new 24" lcd monitor to the computer. I am not sure if the celeron will do the trick.

How should I proceed?

Processor has nothing to do with a monitor, it's your integrated graphics that you should worry about, it may not be able to handle certain resolutions.

what is the new monitors native resolution?

Pretty old board, released in 2002, last bios undate was in 2003. 533/400MHz Front Side Bus. What model processor are you putting in it?

just because the board says it handles a 3.06ghz cpu doesn't mean it supports the processor that you bought, you need to see if it supports that specific model cpu
