New CPU or Mobo?

So, my RAM arrived today, so i stuck it in my new system. Once i checked everything to make sure its all connected properly, i stuck in the power cord and flicked the switch. the motherboard light comes on, so my PSU is good. all the other components work. I push the power button, and nada. It's the CPU that isn't compatible. Should i get a new CPU (pentium d) or a new mobo that supports core 2 duo's?

Just because the motherboard lights up doesnt mean your psu is good, especially trying to get a 3870 going on a rubbish a-power power supply. First thing i would do is try the integrated graphics if you could. And i would go for a new mobo vs getting a rubbish pentium D.

The psu does work, i tested it in my other system with no problems. yes it is rubbish-y but it works and works well for what i need it to do. I did test using integrated gfx, and nothing.
A new motherboard would be a hassly, but i guess it's worth it... the trouble is finding one on ebay that is decent and not overpriced.
