New CPU Question

OK, I'm buying a new computer... everything is going to be top of the line cuz im gonna keep this one for a while. Now I know that when you buy an intel it tells you how much it is (ghz rate). Now on AMD how do you convert them? like a 2200? is that a 2.2 Ghz? and if thats the case and some amd only get up to like 3200 doesnt that mean that intel would be better? Or not? Help! I can't decided between an AMD or an Intel

you can't really compare clockspeeds between processors anymore. Just take the PM and P4 as comparision, even thought they're both intel processors they have drastically different clockspeeds. However if you only look at the clockspeed, a 1.8ghz PM runs alot faster than a 1.8ghz P4.

AMD's numbering system has no real basis, although I believe it used to be the "equivalent" (2200+ = 2.2Ghz) speed of an Intel processor.

the number after the AMD name (ex. AMD Sempron 3400+) is just the model number, like what intel is doing now calling there cpu's the 640J.

To get a rough estimate, an AMD 2400 is equivilant to an intel 2.4Ghz, this "rough estimate" really only applies when your comparing cpu's for gaming, otherwise there isnt really a way to compare them.

Ya... I think I get it, thanks guys. Now what I want to ask is what do you guys think the best processor is for gaming? You know, the type that can be combined with a really nice GPU so it can develop graphics that will "drench yor senses."

AMD Athlon X2, they come in a few different speeds, so its up to you to choose what one you want, but thats one of the best cpu's out there.

Hi
Follow me, between AMD and Intel ,i will be buy AMD because when i run the program simular on PC(AMD) and PC(Intel), PC(AMD) run fast more PC(Intel). i think you should choose AMD.

It depends on what the application that you are running is. And of course ensure you are comparing chips of similar class

not anymore (not since Intel shifted to their LGA775). now you get Pentium4 5xx, 6xx and Pentiumd 8xx etc

now on AMD how do you convert them? like a 2200? is that a 2.2 ghz?
you dont do any conversion. it's just a number.

help! i can't decided between an AMD or an intel
CPU 101.

Uh....no... unless by "rough estimate" you mean "could be right or wrong, nobody knows"

Now what I want to ask is what do you guys think the best processor is for gaming?
What games are you playing?
