New CPU, Slow Boot

I just received an i5 3570k for Christmas and i'm super glad about it, only there is a problem. I haven't messed with OC the RAM or CPU, GPu has been OC for over 3 months.

After I installed my new CPU, my computer is impossible to startup. I have to wait, it feels like, 5 minutes for my computer to startup. It will stay on the windows logo for a long time. I know not what would cause this and seek your help, Thanks!

What does Device Manager say you have for an installed CPU? Did you make any other changes to the system when installing the CPU?

is it still really slow when you get past booting the system? You could try scanning for hardware changes in device manager to see if it changes anything.

Bios is at 3603 so I know that isn't an issue. At the windows logo I get hung up for about 2-3 minutes, the welcome page a little but not more than normal, then after i get to desktop its normal from there.

Also, I have no problem once the PC is booted. I did run a scan for new hardware and for some reason I have a few "Other Devices".

I think a reinstall of the chipset driver would be a good idea. John would have a better idea than I would on that one.

For some reason you are missing some of your drivers. Throw your motherboard cd in the drive and run the driver install program. You may have some drivers that still need to be installed afterwards. If you do, come back and I'll sort you out from there.

Looks like you need chipset, sound, usb, Lan

But that shouldn't be causing the slowness in loading. So lets install the drivers and go from there.

Alright I got all of the drivers installed from my mobo cd. All of the other devices that were listed went away except for a "multimedia audio controller".

I don't know why but there might be a virus/malware on the pc, been having some issues with my browser. I'm going to run some scans to see if there is anything, but if there is I don't understand why it would come out once i install new hardware.

On your multimedia audio controller do the following. Right click on it, click on properties, click on the details tab. Give me the 4 digit vendor and device ID numbers. They will look like this, I have highlighted mine in red. You may have to switch the property box to show hardware ID.

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1002&DEV_AA01&SUBSYS_00AA0100&REV_1002

No need, I figured out what it was. I forgot I installed a sound card, didn't have the driver installed from a reinstall of the OS a few months ago. Anyway, all of my drivers are installed and up-to-date now. Boot time has been reduced a bit, but still a lot longer than what it was with my old cpu.

Its a Realtek. Download it from here https://www.asus.com/support/Download/1/39/P8Z68_DELUXEGEN3/

Also download the latest BIOS, update it and press F5 to set to default. Restart (F10) and then set your boot priorities and other settings. This is important with new CPU.

Then update Intel chipset from here http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

Then update the remaining drivers from the the first link above.

I already had the latest bios and chipset, I did have to install the gpu driver for the intel 4k graphics but that was it.

Did you say your video card was overclocked? If so, remove the overclock and see what happens. And everything was fine before you changed the cpu?

Maybe you can explain why but I fixed whatever problem it was.

I took out the sound card (ASUS Xonar DG 5.1) and rebooted the computer and it started just like normal, no waiting around for a long time. I don't know why but having the sound card installed was slowing it down with a new cpu? Computers are fickle. :P

Maybe when you replaced the cpu you bumped the soundcard. Try reinstalling the sound card now, making sure its seated properly.

That makes sense if you haven't turned off the onboard realtek sound card. I didn't realise you had a discrete sound card.

Definitely could have happened. I don't need the sound card anymore so I don't have a use to put it back in, glad i figured out what was wrong though. ^^
