New AMD Processor? WHich One?

Ok, I have a AMD 64 3200 2 GB Ram , I just got the Geforce 7600GT, new sound blaster sound card, new 500 dual rail psu. Now I want to upgrade my cpu, This site is killing my pocket book. Ever since finding it, I want to upgrade everything now, also have been enjoying playing some of the new demos out....Thanks....lol Anyways, options are X2 4200, 4400, or 4800. WHat would be my best and easiest way to go, without having to do anything else.....Is it as easy as it seems to switch out your CPU as it seems??? Thanks

Unfortunately the top model cpu for the 929 boards was the FX-60 pulled from the shelves some time back. That was the one dual core model in the FX series. For stock and not ocing the 4800 X2 would see the highest clock speed. The comparison for all 939 model cpus can be seen at http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUResult.aspx?f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=939&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=2000&

I jumped out of a 939 build with the 3500+ into an AM2 model with a 6000+ X2 seeing 3ghz over the 4800+'s 2,6ghz. You also have the 4600+ X2 to consider for a 939 model at 2.6ghz. For swapping the task is simply for simply releasing the lever and carefully lifting the current one out to drop a new one in.

Cleaning the old thermal paste off of the hsf with rubbing alcohol takes slightly more effort. Stock hsf? oops! Time for a 3rd party cooler and allowing the fresk application of Artic Sliver 5 maybe to break in over some 200hrs.

Wow you lost me there...You need to talk baby talk, lol... I have the 939, or thatis what pc wizard 2008 is telling me.....

Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Frequency : 2000 MHz - (current : 2009.13 MHz)
Support : Socket 939
Cache L1 : 128 KB
Cache L2 : 512 KB
Voltage : 1.400 V
Processor Temperature : 33.5 °C

From a 4200-4400 and 4800 and your not overclocking go for the 4800 if you can find one at a decent price but you can get 4200s for like 65 bucks.

If you do a lot of multitasking and run stock the highest Opteron 939 model is the 185 for clock speed there. Since the FX-60 was removed from shelves as mentioned before being in the FX performance line the 4800+ or Opteron 185 see the fastest stock speed.

If you are seeing that price you want to avoid the vendor selling it. A new FX-60 AM2 model 3ghz cpu goes now for under $200 retail at newegg. A number of places can be a ripoff at times keeping prices way up.

Good luck finding a 4800, they are very hard to find. You can find a 4200 at newegg for cheap. And it would still be a huge jump from your old cpu.

no, there is over 40 auctions onebay right now for the 4800....not sure what the normal price is on it though...

Theres no such thing as a AM2 FX-60 3ghz. You can get a AM2 FX-62 2.8ghz at Tiger for 150 bucks and at Newegg for 170 bucks. I,ve ordered about 5 from Tiger.
