A bit of advice please.
I want to get a new CPU but cant really decide which.
I have €170 to spend on one(about $200) so im limited in choice.
Here's my question:

Do i buy a Pentium D 930 or a Pentium 4(probably a 641)?

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

The Pentium D has two cores, which is basically two Pentium 4 processors built into one.

What about overclocking? Whats a safe frequency to OC the Pentium D? I dont really use my PC for gaming that much, more so software development

3.6ghz easily. just ask omega :)
hes got one and if i remember correctly leaves it at 3.6ghz which is a very nice cool running speed, especially for 65nm
i'd get a pentium d too, especially for overclocking. theyre 65nm which makes them mad good at overclocking. P4's come in 65nm as well... but HT is a lower less efficient solution for multithreaded apps in comparison with dual core so dual core is definitely suggested.

It varies dramatically. Based on what people have said, the most common stable overclock for the Penitum D 930 is around 3.6Ghz (which i also sucessfully achieved), and many other people also got theirs at 4Ghz stable.
