New Desktop Computer

Hey Guys,
With your help, I managed to build a great pc about 2 years ago, which I very much enjoy every day. So thanks for that!!

A friend of mine needs a new pc and I would like to build it for him. Kinda looking forward to open all the packages and build my second rig (feels like Christmas even if its not for me xD)

So maybe you guys can help me again?

Purpose: An office machine, he needs it for his studies and home entertainment (movies, music, etc) but no gaming.
He does have an OS and peripheral devices already (keyboard, screen, mouse), everything else he needs.
Price range: 550 Euros and he would like to buy the parts from alternate.de.

Would be great if you could recommend the parts he should get.
Thanks a lot!

Thank you for your help!

He won’t use it for anything graphically demanding, main purpose is just for writing, making presentations, watching videos and listening to music.

Which GPU would you recommend?

This intel cpu has integrated graphics on the cpu, model HD Graphics 530, which outputs through the D-sub, DVI and HDMI connectors on the bacK of the motherboard. Integrated graphics work by using dedicated system RAM, different amounts of RAM assigned to the GPU in windows and will not be able to be used by the rest of the system. For example you have 16gb in this system, if you were to assign 2gb of ram to the gpu, then that would leave you with 14gb for the rest of your system, which is why I chose a larger amount of ram. Also integrated graphics performance is greatly affected by ram performance, higher speeds making a bigger difference than latency, this is why I chose this fast ram.

Take a look at this link, it will give you an idea of what the cpu is capable of graphics wise: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/skylake-intel-core-i7-6700k-core-i5-6600k,4252-9.html

If your friend is considering buying a dedicated graphics card in the future for whatever reason, then keep in mind this system has a good psu, but its only a 450 watts, this will limit him to lower powered cards. If he suspects that he maybe buying a graphic card in the future then it would be a good idea to spend a little extra on a 600 watt psu, it will give you a much greater choice of cards and will save him money by not having to buy another psu in the future.

Thank you for the information it was interesting to read!
I will go with this setup unless he plans on a better GPU in the future.

Just one last question, how much memory would you advice to dedicate to the GPU considering the planed purpose?

Thank you very much for your fast help and support!

Your welcome, let us know what he buys and maybe post some pics of the build :)

Edit : I haven't had this model of gpu, but considering some much more powerful dedicate cards have only 2gb of memory, then I don't see it needing more than 2gb and this leaves you with plenty of system ram. If and when you finish the build you can run some free benchmarks to measure graphics performance and see what effect different amounts of ram have.

Alright, I’ll go for the 2gb and test it after. However, he probably won’t need more. I’ll take some pictures if the wire management does not look too bad :D

Just one "last" question, the Mushkin memory isn’t available at the store right now and they don’t know when they will have it again. Could you recommend another one?

Thanks a lot!

Thx john, your right that is better. My laptop was fine but my tablet doesn't like this website and clearly wasn't displaying all the results as i still can't find this memory on the website even though I know its there.

This is one of the reasons I hate tablets for doing anymore than just watching films on the go, I aslo often experience glitches leaving messages here.
