When looking for a new computer what are the kinda specs that should be considered a minimum that will give a decent performance and last for a few years

don't really want a super expensive computer but one that will do the job and last

thanks for your help

If you want help picking out parts whether its an entire system or just parts or to upgrade or anything really, make sure to specify the following information:
1. Your budget. This is the most (literally) limiting factor. You dont need to nail it down to an exact number of dollars and cents: a rough estimate is more than sufficient. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, monetary values are understood to be in USD.

2. The purpose: what do you plan to use the system/component for? This will help the rest of us who might respond to be able to tailor a response to a specific requirement you might have.

.

You still need to answer the second question, will you be multitaking alot, gaming? What kind of games? What do you prefer, AMD or Intel, ATi or nVidia?

Store you can buy in? (website)

Sorry I'll start again and try to include everything

Budget ideally under £500

The computer is going to be mainly used for a bit of gaming (eg sims2) and school work. The idea is not for a super computer but one that isn't too expensive but will do a decent job.

from what i gather its push and shove between amd and intel, but for defaults sake intel i suppose

same betwen nvdia and ATi...to be honest I'm not too informed about these things but as long as it will perform well and get t he job done personal preference doesn't particularly matter

(if i need to say somthign more please tell me)

I tried looking on som online sites such as Dell but it didn't seem to want to let me customise it the way i would've liked
