New detected in bois but not windows

I just instaled 2gb of PC4200 DDR2-533MHz into my computer.
It already had 1gb of the same spec ram in there, different brand.
In my BOIS its showing up as 3gb but in Windows Vista only 1gb is showing up.

When i boot the my pc with both new and old in the bois it shows up as 3072mb and in windowns as 1023mb

With just my old ram in the bois it shows as 1024mb and in windows as 1022mb

And with just the new ram it shows as 2048mb in the bois and 1023mb in windows.

So any help would be much appriecated because this is really confussing me.

What motherboard do you have, it might have a 2gb limit?

I don't think that's it if the full 3GB is detected in the BIOS.

yeah the motherboard is MSI MS-7204. As far as i know its an non standard board, cause the pc im running is a Medion computer. I checeked the motherboards manuel and it says it supports that ram.

yea i just booted my computer with xp and it has detected the full amount, 3 gigs. But this is all well and good but i got the extra ram to make vista run more smoothy, as im tired of xp. So it looks like MS has outdone itself again.
