New DVD SATA

Hi guys,
I'm looking at getting another DVD drive for my computer. The store that I'm going to has a lot of different brands which are within 10 dollars of each other so price doesn't matter. The disc drive that I'll be getting will definitely be SATA. The list of manufacturers they have is listed below. At the moment I have 2 LG drives (one Blu Ray and one that just is a DVD burner). I don't like the fact that LG charges a massive amount of money if you want their newest Blu Ray playing programs so if they aren't best I'd prefer not to go LG.

LiteOn, Pioneer, Sony and LG all make good drives. I suspect that the others you have listed may also have components manufactured by one of these four.

You are still going to pay a premium for the Blu-ray format. That isn't going to change for some time.
 
I've had good luck with Samsung drives lately. Use to use alot of LiteOn but starting having trouble with them, alot of failure rates. Alot of LG have that damn Bluebird crapware now.
 
So I guess it doesn't really matter which one of the one's suggested I should get? And there isn't really any compatibility issues if you get a different brand?
 
I'll second that. You should have no compatibility issues with having multiple drive brands installed.

As far as the actual brand, you will do fine with any on the new edited list.

The drives were fine, read and wrote just fine. Just started having people bring them back with broke drive door belts. Cant remember now, been probably over a year since I bought a LiteOn. But like out of the last 10 drives, 4 of them came back in a few months with broke belts.
 
Whenever I build a computer for a client, I always buy Liteon. I've only had one break down after five years because of a broken belt. Maybe you just got a bad batch if you buy in bulk?
 
Lite on works well for me also. Light scribe does not mean nothing. speed does if its a choice for writing.
