New EIDE Card doesn't recognize hard drive

Just purchased a new Compaq 3.2 Ghz computer with SATA hard drive. Trying to add my older ATA 133MHZ hard drive.

Added a Syba PCI EIDE card and it installed successfully. However it doesn't recognize the ATA hard drive.

I also connected a Zip disk which it does recognize.

I removed the jumper on the ATA hard drive to make sure it is the slave. It's a Maxtor Drive.

I've tried installing new hardware but it doesn't seem to see the ATA hard drive either.

I am able to connect the hard drive to the open slot with the DVD Burner and it works there. But that's not where I want to put it.

What could be the problem?

Thanks,
Greg

1. it is a PAIN IN THE ARSE with a SATA and a ATA drive on same pc.
2. so ur MOBO doesnt have ATA133 slot onboard? or u just didnt check it?

The Motherboard only has 1 eidi slot and that's got the DVD burner plugged into it.

Currently the SATA drive that came with the computer is the master. It's got XP on it. I can't make the ATA drive the master if it doesn't have the operating system, can I?

Yea but you can plug two devices per any given EIDE slot.
