New FX

Same story though...

  • needs high end cooling.
  • puts a lot of strain on the motherboard.
  • runs hot.
  • high power drain.
  • struggles to compete.

Yeah I think the fact that it says in the article: 'Advanced Micro Devices plans to release another FX-series desktop microprocessor that will come bundled with closed-loop liquid cooling system,' kinda says a lot about how hot thing thing is going to run.

It's cool that they throw in a liquid cooler though (no pun intended)...

I think it's amusing they were 'getting out of the performance sector' and keep making these marginal re-hashes of the Vishera line. I doubt a lot of the AM3+ board vendors would even bother updating the BIOS for the vast majority of boards.

I thought they had dropped out of the performance market and were now only doing APUs for low-end builds?

Think it was nothing but a re release of the 9590 with water cooling.

Think they have Jim Keller back onboard. From what I understand he is working on a new architecture. Dropping the module, going back to full cores. Suppose to be working on a new X86/64 core for the APU and standalone cores for servers and highend desktop.
