New Gaming PC, would this one be ideal?

No. this machine don't have graphic card, you can't game with that.
If you only have budget of £550, you will need to build it yourself. I haven't seen one gaming machine with that budget.

I was planning on buying a new graphics card to go with the new PC.

My budget is actually between £700-£800, although i don't think i'd be able to build a computer by myself.

How do you feel about the specs for the PC i linked to with regards to my question?
 
your also prob gonna need a new psu as well to run the graphics, i'm also a bit dubious about that setup as it lists an athlon II cpu (the quad 630) but gives you a ddr2 motherboard, it should be ddr3, not 2 and that is naturally what an am3 cpu would be paired with prob meaning the board is am2/+ and means it is outdated and wont run some of the newer cpus.

check this guide out, it is actually pretty simple to build your own computer and you will get better quality parts and prob better performance, we can advise on various parts to help you out.

I was a bit confused about the ddr thing aswell. That's why i needed to make sure i don't buy something that doesn't live up to my expectations.

As for building my own, i really don't feel that confident about it, and would much rather have someone else do the work for me.

Those both look quite good. I like the second one more, and the reviews seem quite positive.

Would these PCs handle the current gen games well?

Any ideas of the type of upgrades(if any) would i likely need for next gen games?
 
Yeah, i'd take Win 7 prem along with the 6870, and i'd still have £100 left for other things.

edit - would i be able to upgrade the RAM at all? I figured i'd need about 6gig of RAM for future games.

You can call overclockers and ask them, I am not sure with novatech.
For RAM, you either get 2 x 2GB or 2 x 4GB. With 6GB RAM, you use up all ram slots. It will be better to leave it empty such that you can upgrade in future.

BTW, I do recommend you get Phenom IIx4 or core i5 (LGA 1155) if you can afford.
 
Asuming you have the monitor and stuff look at this

and configure it how you want, you have way more options here, example: i just configured a pc with a high quality corsiar psu (650 watt) 8 GB of kingston hyperx ram, same cpu a HD6950 (which you can update the bios yourself to get a hd6970 for free!!) and otherwise the same specs and it came to 803 pounds, you can tack on an extra 30 to get the phenom cpu or drop to 4 GB to save money (you wont need more than 4gb atm and ddr3 prices are real low atm)

take a look, all high quality parts and you can configure everything

There's quite a few confusing bits, but it does seem like the best option.

I'll let you know how i get on.
 
I've ordered from PC specialist, so i'll let you know how it works out when it arrives.

I went with the Phenom II x4, 650W PSU, HD 6950, and 4gb kingston ram.
