Hoping i`m wrong, but is my new gpu DOA

Installed a new msi 970 twin frozr today & straight away had problems, would load bios screen then as it booted into windows it would lose signal to my 4k tv

When i connect to a monitor is works fine, when I uninstall the driver and boot with basic driver it display fine on tv, when i boot using intel hd it works fine at full 4k

So the problem only seems to exist when connecting the tv to the 970 with Nvidia drivers installed ?

I had a similar problem with a 7990 as well as a few other instances of this type of problem.

What resolution is the monitor you used that worked? I assume this is 10 based on your sig? IIRC mine was doing this when I connected my 1440p monitor via DVI. This gave me a black screen at 1440p because DVI doesn't support that resolution. I put it on my 1080p monitor and it worked fine. Windows 10 auto updating didn't help either. Try this below.

Using the monitor that works, download the latest video driver from Nvidia. Also get DDU as per this. http://www.computerforum.com/thread...all-graphics-drivers-amd-nvidia-intel.230370/

Next, boot into Safe Mode with No Networking using the 4K TV. Run DDU and clear off any and all drivers from Nvidia. If there's any other Nvidia software go ahead and get rid of it while you're at it. Reboot again into Safe Mode with No Networking. This will prevent W10 from trying to install their drivers. Install drivers that you downloaded. Reboot again and see if it works. For me I think I had some issues because I went straight from a 390 to the 7990 with no fresh drivers and then they were screwed up when I rebooted again.

I had to bork around for a while before it finally took with the 7990 but once it took I had zero problems thereafter. I think it's mainly just resolution issues. You might have to just boot into low resolution video mode (not safe mode) and set resolution manually, too.

Have you used 4K on that TV before out of the computer? Also make sure you're using DisplayPort if possible, although HDMI does support 4K I think. When I was fixing this problem on the 7990 I even caused the same problem on my 390 temporarily since I swapped back to it to test. I seriously doubt the card is bad, just weird config/resolution issues.

Thanks Darren & Strangles, after some troubleshooting it is not a software problem.

I tried putting my old card back in and obviously to save time i did not screw it down, it worked fine, so I then put the new card in, again not screwing it down & it worked perfectly, so i assumed great job done, however when i screwed it down it went back to no signal then i tried unscrewing & the display worked normal again.

Surely fixing the card down, should not be causing this ?

UPDATE

So the problem has turned out to be when the card is screwed into the case holes & leaves the card in a position that when the hdmi cable is plugged in, it does not go all the way in thus not giving a proper signal if any, this is due to the fat block immediately after the connector hitting the case.

So for the moment the card is itself not screwed in the specific holes, but held in by pressure from the shield used cover the case gap at the back, i would rather get the card fixed in properly so have ordered an hdmi cable with a very thin head.

Running the machine with the card like this does not appear to have any effects, is anything about about how i have installed the card a risk ?
