so imfinally building my gamign computer. my brother has been gaming for years but i never had a comp for it, so now im building one. finall. heres a list of parts ill be using. looking for opinions on if this system will be fast, and play games well. im looking for a fast computer they wont hesitate to play the latest stuff. ive had crap computers all my life and this one will get rid of that.

let me know what you gusy think of these parts. im very new to this stuff and im looking for opinions on what is good and will work fast and efficient. thanx in advance

Don't get that video card. Either buy the 8800gt or the HD3870, they're both better and probably cheaper. Also, do you really need two 1TB hard drives? I don't see a gaming computer needing so much memory. And also do you need 1.1kw of power?

I would suggest...

1) buying a cheaper PSU
2) buying a cheaper hard drive
3) buying a quad core processor
4) going SLI/Crossfire if you really want to
 
i keep tons of pictures saved on my comp, holidays and such. and i save videos and other stuff also. the space is just extra. id only run one. i wont need 2. changed hard drive to 500gb drive. instead of tb


1) what video card do you reccomend

2) that power supply came up in the essentials on newegg when i added the motherboard to mycart. not sure how much power i will need

3) im not sure what sli/crossfire actually is. not sure how it sets up or what is needed. any suggestions would be great.

im very new to all this. wasnt sure about the video card. the power supply i was sure i needed.specially with that case. once i added the case to mycart is had a combo deal with a 1k w power supply.

That PSU will be plenty for you: Corsair 620HX

Go for either the 8800GT or the HD3870 as a video card.

SLI or Crossfire is just about running 2 GPU of the same type in order to increase their performance, but the increase in performance varies between 15 and 50% better than 1 card, for twice the price, so its not worth it. besides, sometimes it can also decrease performance.

You probably don't need a sound card as there is already good sound that is integrated in your mobo. I would try with that before buying a separate sound card.

Try to get SATA drives instead of IDE.

I would also look for the Q6600 instead of the E6850 or if u want to stay with Core 2 Duo, go for the E6750 it is almost 100$ cheaper for only a small difference in performance.
 
and that power supply will be enough? i thought being as newegg had it in the essentials list i needed more power? even with my fans in that case and such.


i was thinking of the q6600 kentsfeild processor.

and i was actually looking at both of those video cards. i like that saphire card more then the one i have selected. thought the one i had listed was overkill and im right.
 
The GPU u chose is good, but pricy and its older technology compared to the HD3870 which performs better than the X2900, same thing for the 8800GT. In this departement, the price is not always an indicator of better performance, I think(tho I am not sure) that because of certain laws it is forbiden to sell an item for a price inferior to what you paid for. So with older technology costing more to produce and newer/more effective one coming out very fast, better items can be cheaper.

That PSU will be plenty for your needs. What Newegg suggested is plain overkill, have a look at other builds, usually all you need is a good 500watt PSU, I suggested you a good 620watt one for safety.
 
dude i cant thank you gusy enough man, saved me like $1000 from what i had listed. like i said im new to this and have no idea what power supply and such is needed.

anything else im gonna need on this build. cables ect? theres a few games id like to play with this and id liek to try crysis with it but i hear that game needs some good comp stuff to run it
 
You should be alright to run Crysis with that but I suggest you read other similar posts, there are plenty in the 1st 2 pages, it won't take too long and you will learn plenty, might also be able to save some more... But more importantly, you will be able to make an enlightened purchase, so we are sure you will be happy with it.
 
yea ive been reading before i posted this. lookign at what people are reccomending and buying. also what peopel say have problems and not. this is why i went with a abit board instead of an asus. ive heard mixed opinions about asus.

now if newegg would get one of those video cards in stock, preferably the geforce that would be sweet
 
Just FYI, lots of folks have had issues with the IP35. I've never used one, so cannot say for certain, but many folks say it's not worth it. I'm all for Abit though, perhaps consider another of their Boards?

what operating system are you planning on getting?
i agree with everybody else to go with the 8800gt 512mb, hd3870 or wait till the 8800gts (the new 8800gts) comes out

and I would go with the Corsair 620HX and I would get 2 sata dvd burners instead of a cd drive and a dvd drive because a dvd drive can read and burn cds and dvds (most of them at least if not all)

Well, I'm not a huge MoBo person. I use an Abit IL9 Pro myself, and it suits me fine. Bear in mind though, that although *newer*, it's not *new* (as in supports the newest CPUs). For the most part, my Clients only need basic Boards, so it's not really a part of the industry I've kept up with. However, the P31/P35 Gigabyte Boards are nice. Abit also has some nice models. Personally, I'd stay away from Intel and ECS, but that's just my own personal reasons.

Really, if I were looking for MoBo advice, I'd be the last person I'd ask! I wasn't trying to shoot down your decision, just let you know that the IP35 has issues. Feel free to check out the Abit Forums (http://forum.uabit.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48) (that link is directly to the Socket 775 Folder - notice all the IP35 Threads on the first page alone) for more info.
 
i would liek to switch to vista 64 bit.

im not sure how the drives work as far as dvd and cd roms, and which ones i can run. looked to me the drives i had would be fine but if the cd rom isnt needed and can be swapped for another dvd drive i would do that.


also will this board run crysis and such with the rest of my setup and the 8800gt ? if so ill get that. will also save me a bunch

that board should play crysis along with the 8800gt I as far as I know and yea I would just go with 2 dvd drives

and as far as vista I would get home premium 64 bit

yea im looking to run 64 bit and 32 inch screen.

i just never had a gaming pc and want something to last me a while playign really nice games and such. sick of havign crap comps.

that board seems like it will be ok, the FSB and the ram matches up to the processor just fine and the memory i wanna run. plus itll save me liek another $100


as far as SATA dvd drives, im gonna research those. see what drives to get. thanx for the help guys
