Alright guys, im currently planning to make my first custom gaming rig. I am currently planning it and gonna get the money for it later. IT may even be a year from now and better parts will be out (maybe) but i just need to get the idea so i'll know what im doing. SInce this is my first time i turn to you guys.
So, for starters im not COMPLETELY new.. i have bought a psu and a graphics card for my little ol' stock computer. I bought a 500w and Nvidia 9500 GT 1gb.
but now i want my own nice rig.

The things i really need to know most are:
Motherboards, i really don't know much. help?
Processor. (im looking for intel, and thinking about i5 but i don't really know.
for cd burner/ reader what am i really looking for? Don't i just need a regular one nothing fancy? i have a link below for one.

I want to know what gives the computer all the usb ports? Is that in the case? or is that in the mb or what am i looking for when trying to make the build with the most usb ports?

Here are some things that i picked out let me know what you think:

I have no questions for memory but i do with hard drives. My question is can't i use my current hardrive im using now (with all my installed games and everything) just taken out and put into my new rig, AND THEN upgrade it with another harddrive to make it 2 hard drives?

This is all i can think if now if i remember ill ask again. Please help some of my questions may be stupid but its my first build so i don't know.

cpu - core i5 750/ 760
burner - sata, 24x
video card- GTX 460 768MB is as low as $130 after MIR, good to cosider. But GTS 450 is not a bad card

mobo - any H55/ P55. ASRock P55 Extreme is at good value

PSU - get something like SeaSonic S12II 520w for single video card
dual video card - probably Antec TruePower New TP-750/ CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX

HDD - you probably need to reinstall OS as existing OS on HDD may not work properly due to driver problem. Also, I don't know what is your existing model of HDD. the latest HDD would probably work faster.

Well honestly you need to ask your self if you really need to buy a new computer. That 450 is a good card but you could have better performance if you did not buy a whole new computer. If you bought a new card and power supply you could get better FPS. You could get a GTX 480 instead of spending all that cash on a new PC. You think your need a new CPU? I do not know witch CPU you have, but most dual cores can run any game as long as you have a card to back it up.

Motherboards will accept certain cpu's but not all.
And Amd & Intel don't mix either.
There are several difference within each brand as well.
^ Investigate that.

The motherboard specs will tell you what type and how many of the connections it has.
Cases and hubs can provide more usb ports.

Alright, my processor is.. em intel core duo e4500 i think. I want a new computer, so im going for a decent one at least and a custom. so i'm going to have to transfer everything from my hard drive to a new one? Im nto sure i understood that.

another thing im considering is:
I was asking here and there and people said i won't be able to get a good computer for my budget (700-900ish) for a intel/nvidia build.. and they were suggesting an amd build but idk? What you think.

and agian about the hard drive thing cause i really just want to update pretty much EVERYTHING and keep all my files.
