or

HDD WD CAVIAR GREEN 500GB 7200/16MB/SATA2 $95

cheers ritchie

I myself would get the seagate model since i've had nothing but problems with WD lately.

Seagate has a bigger cache, and Seagate are a very good and reliable manufacturer.

i think he knows which one has a larger cache, he probably wants to know the advantages/disadvantages of both.... which i can't help him with, i have also wondered this question....

I was told 32mb wasn't commonly used at the moment and you wouldn't you use it all or notice a difference.

I went from a 120gb 2mb to a 320gb 16mb seagate (60 bucks on TG) I was even told 16mb wouldn't make a big difference over a 8mb drive but hot damn its sure better then a 2mb ^-^ Gothic 3 doesn't even lag as badly now. (it uses HD cache to run how retarded right?)

Though one thing and I dunno if its a problem...it idles at 36-37c which is about 5-6c higher then my IDE. Room temp is about 78F.

Yeah, well with sata, you can notice some difference, and it all depends on the main use for the PC.

The bigger the cache the better :)

if you have lots of ram the disk cahe wont make that huge a difference, as its main use is to speed up paging
