New Hard drive install

As of now my Operating system is loaded on a Maxtor 80GB SATA2 Hard drive. I just bought a new Maxtor 200GB SATA 2 Hard drive and I want to use it for storage and keep my operating system on the 80GB. The book instructions say, "The driver for the SATA interface must be installed prior to connecting the hard drive. If you are using a SATA card, you should physically install it at this time but do not connect the hard drive." What does that mean??? How do I install the new hard drive correctly? Also the booklet doesn't tell, which pin(s) are the master and slave?

You already have Sata drivers or your other drive would not be working. Install the drive, reboot- Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Disk Management-Click on new drive-Initialize then format. Sata drives do not have master and slave pins

Yeah, no need to edit pins or anything. Just plug it in, check in the BIOS that the boot priority is your CD or Master HD first. Once booted, go into Disk Management and allocate the 200GB! I wouldn't recommend a partition on a 200GB, unless you need it.

Why would I allocate it instead of formatting it? Ok im at the Computer Management screen and the computer recognizes my drive as "unallocated" right now. Now where do I go? How do I allocate it or format it correctly?

Just right click on the new drive in the bottom pane and select new partition
