hi,
i want to upgrade my hard drive to a 100 gb currently i have a 10. my system is a gateway it has a p3 450mhz i currently have 128mb ram but am looking to upgrade that also. can i use a 100gb hard drive? if so how hard is it to install one?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Well as long as you use NTFS (XP default) when you format that new HDD everythign should be okay. Installing an HDD is really easy, all you have to do is slide it in a free 3.5" drive bay hook up the PATA (commonly called IDE) cable up and then the 4 pin Molex power connector and screw it in place.
Also, Are you replacing your currrent one with this or installing it as a second hard drive?

Well if you are completely replacing it and are gonna reinstall Windows XP then XP will format it for you so you shouldnt have any problems. Also, if you have a hard drive in mind would you mind posting a link so we can make sure it is compatible with your comp? It would suck for you to accidentally get a SATA hdd instead of PATA since with a comp as old as urs, i can pretty much guarantee it doesnt support SATA.

i was looking at a maxtor 100gb here is the info i got on it
thanks

Your harddrive shoud come with software that you can boot off of to COPY the entire drive over and do most of it for you.

To install a harddrive all you have to do is put it in the case and connect two cords, its simple even for someone not to familer with comptuers. Just dont touch the chipset on the bottom of the harddrive.
