New HDD

I plan on stopping by Micro Center tomorrow, and picking up a new drive, so.

And I'm skeptical of Beyond Micro, as well.

I don't really plan on spending more than $100, since this is sort of an impulse buy.. I'm currently on an 80GB, and running out of space, *Photos and Games*, and with Crysis Warhead, Warhammer and Far Cry 2 coming out, I think I'll need a bigger drive.

I'll probably clone my current drive, then format it, and use it as a LAN/File drive.

So, Seagate?

Thanks.

And can I use this, http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0278844 to connect and access my other SATA drives, externally?

Go Barracuda! I still have a computer (yes, it's still in use) with a fully working 40GB Barracuda from 6 years back, the drive has traveled all the way from Australia to Northern Europe and back, and it sill hasn't given me a hitch. Considering how much I use computers that drive has been doing a fair bit of work during its life without failing on me. Not to mention that Seagate is one of best-known brands and "Barracuda" just sounds so cool, this one is a no-brainer :P

Hi g4, i don't think your problem in that link is to do with your hd. As i mentioned, i think it has to do with either your PSU being underpowered (e.g. only 2 x 20A 12V rails under SLI), or a memory issue with Vista. If you clone your drive, it will be exactly the same as your current one in terms of data, but different in terms of speed. The issue you are experiencing has nothing to do with your HD though mate.

Either way, I would get a Samsung F1. It is faster than the old raptors and very cheap in terms of $/gb. A very very fast 750Gb HD.

"The SpinPoint F1 is a supremely quick drive and, as it's the cheapest 750GB drive, it's brilliant value too." http://www.custompc.co.uk/labs/180171/samsung_spinpoint_f1_750gb.html

Well I went out and bought that Barracuda drive, I need a new drive anyways, but could it be my PSU..?

I believe this is my PSU, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152030

My case can handle two power supplies, should I plug a 500 watt or something in and mess around?

Thanks.

I'll be using the same key from my current OS on this new drive, I assume my current drive will become deactivated, will I be able to access the files on here as an external drive?
