New HDD

I'm looking at getting a new HDD. I was just wondering if I have to watch out for what to buy so that it will be fine with the rest of the hardware?

I have a WD Caviar KS 320GB SATAII WD3200KS 16MB Cache HDD in it at the moment and a Gigabyte EP45-UD3L ATX s775 Intel EP45 ,DDRII, UD3 motherboard
 
yeah you should be fine and long as you just stick with sata. your older hdd is sata so sata most definitely works :P how many sata devices are hooked up now?
 
I have a Blu Ray player that is SATA and also a HDD that is SATA. But as that HDD has 320GB, which I have pretty much filled up, so I'm getting a 1TB internal and removing all the stuff from my 1TB external to internal so that I van format my external to be able to put files larger than 4GB on it.
 
ok. just checking to make sure you weren't using up all six sata ports :P that would be a bummer since you would've had to buy a card or get and ide hdd :P

I am buying the HDD without paying anyone or installing it into my computer, which means that I have to do it myself. Anyone could tell me what I have to do?
The price for any of about 3 brands is almost exactly the same. The options are: WD, Seagate, Hitachi and Samsung. What would be the best choice?
 
my vote goes to western digital. i think they are the most reliable. it is really easy to install a new hard drive. screw the hard drive in, plug in the sata cable ends in, start up, format, download like crazy :P either google or ask when you get the parts for a more in depth set of instructions.
 
I have got the hdd and gave plugged it into the computer. Then I started the computer up and in windows I can't find the drive to format it. Did I do something wrong when I installed it?
