New High-End PC Build

Hi.

I'm planning on buying myself a brand new high-end gaming PC since my family wants to take over my current desktop. The price tag is around $3 500 USD(have earned up some money in military service). I live in Norway, so the prices are way higher than in the US and mostly the rest of the world. This is my current list:

DVD-ROM: Asus DRW-24B5ST DVD±R/RW/RAM DL 24X SATA Black Retail

GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 690 4GB PCI-E DVI/DP

MOBO: Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe Z77 S-1155 ATX IVY

Monitor: BenQ XL2420T 24" Wide TFT LED 120Hz Black

RAM: Corsair 8GB DDR3 XMS3 Vengeance PC3-12800 1600Mhz CL9 (2X4GB)

PSU: Corsair AX 850W Professional Series Modular PSU

CPU Cooling: Corsair H100 Hydro CPU Cooler S-775/1155/1366/2011/AM3

Case: Corsair Miditower Carbide 500R ATX White

SSD: Intel 520 Series 2.5" 120GB SSD SATA/600 MLC 25NM BULK

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5Ghz 8MB S-1155 IVY

Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder X4

Mousepad: SteelSeries QCK

Mouse: QPAD |5K L.E. Pro Gaming Laser Mouse, or Razer Naga Hex

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA/600 64MB

Any thoughts?

True, but you won't ever see the difference between 100 and 105 fps. If you think $100 (or whatever currency you use) is worth the 5 fps, then go for it.

And it doesn't say what graphics card they're using. They might have dual/triple 680s just to see how the CPUs compare. I don't see you getting much more fps between the two with just one 680.

Is that ^ site very trustworthy? I looked at a case review there several days ago. A small case atho ATX compatible, and they were negative about the 190mm long ps they used almost obstructing mb header/sata port. And why didn't they oc the i5 in there benches? Does the i5 @ $150 less not look better?

The 3770K outperforms the 3570K with 36 fps in BF3...

Oh sorry, just looking at the first benchmark.

But again, you won't see a difference above 75+ fps. Not at all.

And again, see my post about graphic cards. I doubt they're just using one video card. And its at a high resolution. At 1080, the 3570k will get so much fps, you won't see a difference.

If you want the 3770k, go for it, just giving my two cents.

okay, if you are so concerned with that site, use a 2500k. According to them a 2500K ties with the 3770k. And it is cheaper. If you also note they are using the 3770k @ 4.7 GHz, so you will probably not see much difference @ 4.7 on the 2500k and the 3570k either.

and as far as graphics, scan back to page 4 on his link and it shows the setup.
link setup said:
Intel Core i5 2500K (3.3GHz) Sandy Bridge
Intel Core i5 3570K (3.40GHz) Ivy Bridge
Intel Core i7 3770K (3.50GHz) Ivy Bridge
Cooling Alpenfohn K2 – Mount Doom
Motherboard MSI Z77A-GD65
Memory Corsair Vengeance 8GB 2133MHz CL11 DDR3
Graphics XFX R7970 Black Edition
Storage Kingston HyperX 240GB SSD
PSU OCZ Fatal1ty 750W

I too thought it was kind of funny that the 2500K tied with the 3770K at stock, but the 3570K went all the way to the "bottom". It makes no sense... ಠ_ಠ

They showed the 3750 and 3770 oc'd having similar/same results as their non oc'd selves. Why do you suppose they didn't oc the 2500 in any bench? Page 11 and 12.

My recommendation is the following:
- Instead of an i7-3770K get an i5-2500k/i5-3570K.
- Use the money you've saved and get a better case.

If you like a clean looking PC, go for the Fractal Design R3/XL.
If you like a gaming looking PC, go for the Corsair 650D/800D.

Both of these case-options will make your life a LOT easier when you are building your PC + they have better features and way better airflow.

Just my thought.

I won't buy Sandy Bridge when Ivy Bridge is released.
Why in the world would i buy a "better" case when I have chosen the best case there is to get? If you look away from the mainstream market with Corsair's D-classes and the R3, you will find the 500R have the lowest overall temperature. Just look at these thermal tests(I see you are from Denmark, so you should have no problems in understanding this):

http://www.hardware.no/artikler/corsair-carbide-500r/103316/4

The 500R is currently the best midtower case you can get, and it scores amazingly everywhere. If you don't believe me, look it up.

PS! For future replies, have some knowledge before recommending other hardware.

Then why ask for help if you're supposedly more knowledgeable than all of us?

Are you kidding me? Seriously? Where did that come from? I have no more knowledge then all of you... I'm just arguing for the 500R case, with sources(which I allways do). It has nothing to do with more knowledge, but if you recommends another case and says the case I have chosen isn't that good, then you should come with some sources and/or arguments for it. in Jiniix case, he had none.

Jurge, if you have the money, and now, 75 fps their scoffing at may end up being the difference of playable or not playable somewhere else. If your heart desires the i7 go for it. Not quite sure why people scoff at the i7 when its the better choice, and your budget more than will handle it. And in terms of cable management, get the 1100 by antec, it even will handle eATX boards easy
