We have just had our house done up and I insisted that we have network ports put in all the rooms. I want to connect all the computers together and have wifi and possible network attached storage.

What would be the best network configuration?

My thoughts was have an 8 port switch with all the computers connected and attach a wifi router and NAS to the switch too? Is this a good idea? any better ideas?

The network will be used for large file sharing and gaming.

If you have more than one device in each room then you will need an additional switch or router(if you want wireless) in each room. If this is a multilevel house, one wireless router will not be sufficient.
 
Iv got a linksys wifi router and it seems fine to get a signal to each room.
I'm only going to have one thing plugged into each port so I don't think I'll need any additional routers.
