new intel cpus

how will they compare with the current sandy bridges? like i was looking at getting a 17 2600k but if i wait for the new ones how will it compare? and if anyone knows, what information is known about them so far

Intel has not released any new processors presently. One of the best buys from Intel right now is the Core i5 2500K Processor. It is an extremely powerful processor.

AMD is also about to release a new line of processors soon. They will be out by September 19th.

yeah i knew about the AMD ones, im just a bigger fan of intel, and i heard about the new ivy bridge or whatever just wondering how much of an improvement it will be

ivy, sb-e is a 6 core 12 thread version of sandy, while ivy is a smaller die (22nm i think) instead of the current (i think) 32nm, which allows for more to be put on the chip so will be faster clock to clock.

Ivy will use the same socket as sandy bridge does (1155), while sandy bridge-e will use a new socket (2011). Ivy is looking like a Q2 2012 release, while sandy bridge-e is looking like Q4 2011 release.

I would get the i7 2600k and upgrade to Ivy in 2012.

ivy will still be 4/8 like sandy, and sand-e will get the 6/12, i'm pretty sure that the core handling has to do with the socket and chipset limiting it since it wasn't designed for that.

The best thing about sandy-e will be the unlocked multiplier like old SB k series, not sure about the number of cores.

cores is either 4/8 or 6/12, saw a list of there models a while back and that's all they had on there, but like 2 or 3 of each.

Prices are too expensive on two of the models in usual Intel fashion when they release new processors.

Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition Six-Core unlocked processor - $999
Core i7 3930K Six-Core unlocked processor - $583

The only decent price is the Core i7 3820 Quad-Core processor at a $294 price tag.

I would rather buy a k series 4 core 2500k than these costly CPUs.
Its all about 'k' generation.

that makes no sense, the quad core sb-e will most likely be faster if it is priced at almost the same, maybe have a locked multiplier for that price but still, should be something about that somewhere, but saying you'd take the k over something unreleased, and the k only meaning an unlocked sandy-bridge, just is stupid.
