New job, new gaming laptop!

Greetings forum users! I have just recently gotten a great job in tech support and am soon going to get my tax returns and so I'm in the market for a great gaming laptop now that I can afford it. I am willing to go as high as $1000. I want around a 17.3 inch screen, and at least 8gb of ram, and some good dedicated graphics card. I'm trying to find the best deal out there online at the moment. I do not need a touchscreen, as I find that pointless and an increased cost. Please help me pick out my new gaming laptop. I came here because this is where the professionals roam, and I'm sure a lot of smart people out there have some really good ideas. So many choices, thanks for helping me choose!:)

I've always wondered, why would anyone want to buy a gaming laptop? Why not get a desktop? It lasts longer and the parts are easier to change. Is the fact that you can take it anywhere the only argument there? Because I wouldn't move a 1000$ laptop with me regularly to be honest :)

Punk,

The reason I want a gaming laptop is because I already have a great gaming desktop, and now I want something mobile I can take to my friends. I have a great backpack for keeping my laptop in during travel, and I will be very careful.

Have you given any thought to CPUs with Iris Pro Graphics?

If you already have a good gaming rig, you could find a laptop that has one of the processors above and have a decent experience, depending on the resolution, on the integrated Iris Pro 5200. It will keep both the heat and size of the laptop down while giving you more battery life compared to having a dedicated GPU.

I would rather have a laptop that doubles as a gaming laptop rather than two gaming machines. Just my thoughts though. :D

Why not? Lots of people have $2000+ laptops they carry everywhere. I would love a gaming laptop such as the Razer Blade because it's ultra-portable, yet has dedicated graphics and high end specs. It allows you to game whenever you go out somewhere, such as to a hotel or a friends house.

SOrry for the post hijack :o

Well to be honest I wouldn't move it anywhere if my laptop was worth 2000$ :P

Yeah... What's the point in buying a laptop if you won't move it anywhere? That's what insurance is for if you're really worried. I pay $145/year to ensure my $7,500 in camera equipment. No point in having nice camera gear if I'm too afraid to bring it anywhere!

Exactly my point! If I'm too afraid to move a 2000$ laptop then what's the point of buying one? Hence my question. :)

Because some people want to bring a nice computer with them, and not a cheap one. Using my camera as an example again, I could say I don't want to bring my expensive DSLR with me for the off chance it gets broken or stolen, so I'll just buy a cheap point and shoot.

I'll rephrase my answer: I understand what you said, but me (only me here) will never spend 2000$ on a laptop since I think it's too much money to be moved around. I do have a "nice" expansive (to me it is, I don't have a salary) DSLR, no insurance yet I do take it everywhere with me, especially on hikes ;)

Anyways everyone has his view on money :)
