New laptop but USB won't work

Hi.
I bought brand new Tiny laptop. Problem is, that when I plug in a USB mouse, the sensor light up, but laptop wont recognize it at all (wont' serach new drivers etc). I've tried 2 different mice, both are working fine with other PC.
I have installed all the updates, OS is XP Home SP2.
Any ideas?

go under control pannel -> device manager -> and then see if there is a conflict when you have it plugged in, (conflict would be yellow question mark, or red next to something in the list) also look and see if there are any unknown devices.
