New Laptop not conn to ADSL

I just baought a New Dell Insperion 5010. I pluged out my old machine wich was working at the time, and just pluged in the New one and the lights on the network port dont come on and it doesnt give any indication that a cable has been pluged in.

If I connect wirelessly the internet connects and all is fine. Might there be fault with machine or did I overlook something.

Make sure the lan driver is installed and its enabled in the bios. If everything is ok then there is a hardware issue.

I did check all is fine, and agn this is a brand new Laptop, like out the box new.

Then take it back and get a different one.

Ja I suppose I must, but just the thought of paying 18k for a laptop and it has a fault like this.....Not good...

ok I got a simple but still weird answer... It was the cat5 cable. it worked on the old mahcine but not the new one. but with new cable it worked perfectly.... havent had this be4....

Well, most likely you just have a loose wire in one of the plugs bad cable that makes connection when moved a certain way.
