New laptop: Sony, Dell, or PB?

Hi there everyone,

I'm purchasing a new laptop and was very keen on packard bell's easynote LJ71-RB-025 until I heard nothing but criticism about PB's reliability. Would it be foolish of me to buy a PB?

My second choice was a Sony Vaio, but am now questionning sony's reliability. It seems that everywhere I go Dell is constantly praised, but is Sony really so bad?

Hope someone can help me I don't want to spend over £500 on a laptop that constantly breaks down.
(And just because I don't want to break the rules: I'll be using it for home use, not really a big gamer, just writing, music, films, the usual)
Thanks a lot!

Only had a PB desktop, so can't really comment on the laptops. I got mine through PC World at the time because I was strapped for cash (I still paid £650), but I had nothing but problems and customer support was a laugh, both at PB and PCW.

Dell seems to be a solid brand. I've had a couple of their desktops (mostly been upgraded now though) and they've been great all the while I've had them.

Sony I'm really not sure about. Personally, I wouldn't get one because of all the reported bloatware, but I assume you're asking from a hardware standpoint if you're concerned about reliability. Bloatware just puts me right off.

The bloatware is easy to remove, I would go with the sony because I have heard great things about them around the web and this forum, the only down side to the sony is its battery. Most of them are rated up to 4 hours which means more like 2 to 3 hours. Dells are a little better in the battery department.

if you consider the battery endurance Dell Latitude E5400 is suitable for you, The Latitude E5400 is designed not just to survive a long day on the job, but to provide the flexibility mobile users demand. thanks

It depends on what you want to do with your laptop. I'f it's jsut a home computer and won't get moved around much then i'd recommend a sony because of the shorter battery life.

If it gets moved around more I'd recommend an Asus, Toshiba or Acer.

Thanks everyone for all your help. Think I'm leaning more towards the Sony now because I'm blinded by aesthetics, also I don't think I'll be taking it many places because I don't trust myself to remember to pick it up when I'm done. I will consider Toshiba though Daisy thanks for the link.
