new laptop

Hi,
I am trying to get an objective opinion on which laptop to get.
I have configured a dell inspiron 15r, i7 quad with 8 gig of memory, 1tb hard drive, 1 GB nVidia GeForce GT 525M (Quad Core), windows 7 64 bit home premium and ms office pro all for £1040 which I quite like.

Colleagues at work think I should go for a mac. But when I configure one online, for roughly the same spec and half the memory, it costs double the dell one. I have also been told the mac is much faster and better with graphics. Will the mac stream films without freezing?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

John

For movies and internet, a PC will do it all. No need to get a mac. It may have a better resolution for the screen. If you want a good movie laptop, get the resolution 1920x1080.

I went out and bought my first Mac about two days ago, it lasted about two days for me and then I returned it to best buy. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice computer but for $400 less I got my Hp with the same cpu, double the memory and a extra 140 GB of HDD space. There about same in battery life but the things I enjoy that the Mac did not have is hdmi, USB 3.0 and Beats Audio which are all on my HP and I do not see a performance difference in the two.

From what I have read online when they ran performance test on similar spec laptop to a Macbook Pro the only area Apple truly out perform's the PC is in music production but other then that they do everything else about the same.

Many thanks for your replies. I think I will go for the Dell. It seems on paper you get twice the machine for half the price.

regards,

John
