new laptop

I've been looking for a little while for a new laptop and am finally ready to make a purchase. I mostly use my computer for music and movies, web browsing, and digital pictures (nothing too big). I know I want a dvd burner, wireless, good processor (no celeron or sempron), and smaller than 17". I have been toying with the idea of a macbook pro, alienware area-51, or possibly a vaio or dell xps. I appreciate any advise or opinions anyone can give me. --Jeremy

most importantly, what's your budget, and if you're not gaming the alienware and xps are probably gonna be extra money you don't need to spend

I agree. Since you wont be gaming then you dont need a high end desktop replacement laptop that weighs 10 pounds. I would look into the Dell E1705, you can get a nice Core Duo processor, it has a 17 inch screen. Its basically everything you wanted. It also has average video cards available for watching dvds i guess.

he said he wants it smaller then 17" if i read correctly.
Then i'd look at the HP Dv1000 or the Dell 710M, or if those are too small, then u can always look at the next size bigger from each company. but believe me, you don't want to wind up with a laptop that u don't want to take with because its a little too big. its better to have it a little bit smaller then a little bit too big.

very true, I've got a 15.4 and wish it was a 14 for portability reasons, wasn't really considering that when I got it, but do now

lol, i got a 17 incher for games and now find it kind of pointless because i'm wanting a laptop for travel, and i'm getting a nice desktop.

if only i would have bought a desktop first, then a laptop!

yeh you should go with a 14'' i have one and its great for portability, also if you do want portability try and get a good battery one that holds charge for about 3-4 hours. Compaq is a great laptop brand umm LG is a good brand
asus, acer, IBM R series that would suit your needs pretty well, have a look at the ibm website it will tell you all about them.

:D
