Hi,

I just bought a used IBM T30 from my grandparents life insurance agent, and I love it. I would like to know however about wireless internet. Theres a little slot that I THINK is for wireless, but I dont know. How do I find out? In device manager my PCMCIA adapters says Texas Instruments PCI-1520 Cardbus controller. What does this mean? Is this for wireless internet? If so, what kind of wireless can I have? I know that there is 802.11G, and B, and all that, but I dont know anything about it. Could someone please advise?

Thanks,

Craig

If its just a little slot then you probably need a pci card for the wireless which you can buy for like 30 bucks or so at bestbuy..

Ya you just need to buy a pcmia card and put it in the slot. I think it is located on the left... atleast that is where I would put it in my T23. You just slide it in there and everything should work. And I think what you said about "Texas Instruments PCI-1520 Cardbus controller" is for the wireless. And I think you should get the 802.11G pcmia card because it is mostly being used with most routers. The newest one is N but there is very little computers that can handle that and there is also very few routers that support that also.

Hope this helps

I believe some models of the T30 should come with buil in wifi already. So, you may or may not have wireless capabilities already. You will have to search through it to see if there are any wireless applications that you can find.

If not, then you will probably have to get a wireless PCMCIA card as said above to get b/g wireless connections. It's very simple, if you have it, it'll search for your router or public access points and will tell you if it's secured or not. Then you can just connect to each; puclib or secured and enter in the info if it's your own router.
