New Laptop

I'm really posting a lot in a little amount of time but I have a lot of questions :)

Anywho, I'm considering a smaller, more portable, less powerful laptop. Mostly because WILBUR is huge and very heavy. I'm an aspiring author and would really like a laptop that's small and light. It doesn't have to have anything fancy on it and can be really low on processing power as long as it can run Microsoft Word 2007 (I bought it for WILBUR and really like it).

For battery, I'm going to get this universal battery thing I found on the internet. (I'm not entirely sure what it's called). It has nice power and blah, blah etc.

The laptop will not be used for anything other than word processing.

The price range is about a thousand dollars. I can go over but not by too much.

It doesn't even have to have wireless internet but it would be nice...

something like my backup laptop would be fine then :) Bought it off ebay.it has no internal drives which makes it lighter and is a 12" screen so its pretty small. you can check out the spec here. There a different versions of this laptop, I think this is one of the fastest. Mine is a bit slower at 1.73GHz

The smaller the Laptop, the ligher it is. However when you working on words, you actually don't want the screen to be too small to work with, in my option. I personally will go for a 14" at least.

well then it will be heavier... and he may aswell use the one he's got. You don't need it to be big, I can word process on mine quite easily and its really light. Also you don't need anything special to word process. I could do it on my P3 1GHz laptop if I wanted, that would still be fine.

*ahem*
Thank you for all your input

A universal battery is something that will work on most laptops. I believe the one I found plugs into the AC and runs as AC so you have to change the settings manually to make sure you don't drain it too fast but it still gives very good battery life and performance. you can even charge your own battery off of it.

Thanks for the link, Andy:)
I'll be sure to check that out, Daisymtc:)

I don't think a 14" screen would be all that light conisdering WILBUR is a 15.4" and too much power etc. would cause more wieght. I've never actually SEEN a 12" screen before, the smallest I've ever seen was a 13"! the 12" sounds quite small and compact to me:) And, yes, to work on a Word program the screen can be quite small as long as regular eye strain breaks are taken. I make sure to take them as I have glasses and don't need new ones on my pay check.:(

Anywho, I'll be sure to post my decision, thanks for all your help!

Just for the heck of it, I found an even smaller laptop (10.4") :D:D:D
I am pretty sure this is not what you want. Besides, the price is insane.
Here is the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834150055

Anyway, as for a laptop that you can use, you could try looking at this:
Dell - http://www.dell.com/content/product...c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&a=14~0~40&navla=14~0~40

Or you could take a look at the list of 12" to 13" laptop from TigerDirect

I was about to suggest NewEgg but I noticed that you are from Canada so I suggested TigerDirect instead.

*EDIT*
You could try looking at here too.

These laptops are under thin and light category so I guess these would suit you well.
