New LCD. Samsung or HP?

I'm looking to buy a new screen and my two main types are:

HP W2207H
Samsung SM 2232BW

What are your thoughts on these models?

Samsung is the best man, I have a 245B and its the best, albeit its a bit more expensive, but they are totally worth it.

Can you tell me why?

Can you give any examples?
Is the one from quote above falling into "half-way decent"?

There are many, many reasons to not buy a Samsung monitor. The biggest is that they outsource the manufacturing of their own panels, despite being the second largest producer of LCD panels in the world. For example, Dell doesn't actually make LCD panels, right? When you buy a Dell monitor, you're getting an LG or Samsung panel in it.

When you buy a Samsung monitor, you may actually be getting a "Chi Mei" panel, among others.

Here's a good link: http://andrewswihart.net/blog/review-samsung-226bw-lcd-c-panel

This reviewer also goes over how it doesn't actually have a 2ms response time.

HP, I guess, is a worthy choice if you like glossy screens (the kind that look like a mirror). But they're too expensive, they're not especially good for any reason, and you get a 1-year warranty. The standard LCD warranty is 3 years.

If you have a Best Buy in your area, I strongly suggest you get this for 280 bucks:

To be specific, the only chance of getting one of the outsourced models is if you're getting the 22". I have the 24" model and those are samsung-only.

On another note, I have a samsung panel and my dad purchased the LG model you mentioned above. Side-by-side, the samsung trumps the LG no matter what I do with its settings.

Negative. All Samsung monitor models, in all sizes, for the past few years are subject to this outsourcing.

On another note, the LG is superior.

lol I don't see how samsung can be "overrated" because they're quite fantastic/reliable and look gorgeous. the features/controls of the LG were very clunky. plus when my dad plugged it in, the native resolution wasn't detected and everything was blurry... i had to manually go in and add the resolution to the custom list. that may just be his shitty computer but still that's retarded.

lol I'm speaking from an unbiased stance. i looked into both for about 2 months before purchasing, i absolutely love LG products (i made my mother purchase a 40" LG LCD, my cell phone is LG, and our washer/dryer is LG.) i'm just giving my honest opinion which is founded on personal experience that the samsung was higher grade and more elegant than the lg.

Okay. Well you can fall it "gorgeous," "fantastic," "reliable," (how many of them have you tested, and for how long?) and "elegant" all you like, but LG produces superior panels.

Sounds to me like your dad is using a 1680x1050 monitor with an analog connection anyway.
