My master drive die after i droped it last night, so i need an other master drive.

I got a new western digital hardrive but i can't formate it since i can't use the pc.

is it ok to just put in the new hardrive in the computer and install the windows on it with the recovery disc?

my computer is P Duo with 1 GB of DDr ram. What for mate should i use for the new hardrive? Fat32 or NTFS?

I think when i use the recovery disk to install windows, it will formate the hardrive (Fat32) during the process.

Which formate is better? fat32 or NTFS? if it is NTFS what can i do to make it so that it is NTFS formate?

Your recovery disk should have the partitioning tools included. With the new drive installed simply boot from the recovery which will create and format the new primary partition on the drive as an NTFS type. The tool for formatting a Fat32 partition is called fdisk used by the older versions of Windows like 95, 98, and ME.

Are you running a complete system bought retail or a custom build there? If this is a prebuilt system the recovery partition was on the old drive. That contains the needed drivers and softwares. Upon the new installation of XP on the new drive you would need to download the drivers for the board at the manufacturer's support site. NTFS partitions have faster access and are more stable then the older Fat32 or even Fat16 type partitions.

EASEUS Partition Manager is one utility that can format as well as create NTFS partitions. http://www.myfreewares.com/screenshot-162125-easeus-partition-manager-1.1-free-download.html

When booting with an XP installation disk itself and choosing the install XP now option the installer will list the drives and partitions detected. On the new drive you simply highlight the drive detected and answer yes to the question there for which drive you want to install XP onto. You will also notice a box that shows the total disk space available.

If you plan to have more then one partition at any time when installing that number can be reduced to create a smaller primary partition first. The XP installer will then create and format the new one there as an NTFS type. For a quick partitioning and format of a single primary you would just press the enter key to this done.
