New MB won't power up

I recently decided to replace the MB in my backup computer due to an ongoing glitch. The original ASUS MB, (specs), would hang when soft reset forcing a hard reset with reconfigurment of the non-default BIOS parameters - Not a huge deal, but bothersome when someone attempted a reset due to an update, etc.
.
Very few choices for the 775 socket nowadays, and I wanted a full size board, so I ordered the SUPERMICRO C2SBC-Q, (specs), to reuse my DDR2 memory. Other components include - CPU-Intel Q9650, Memory-Corsair Dominator 2 X 4096-8500 C5DF DDR2, PSU-Silverstone ST70F 700W ATX12V/EPS12V Modular.
.
During installation I noted that the new board did not have a socket for the auxiliary 8 pin power connector - only a 24 pin power connection. Hmm-OK. When all was ready I pushed the button and...Nothing. No fans turning, no power LED on the MB, no indication it was getting power. Put the old ASUS MB back in and it ran as usual. Put the new MB back in again, and again, nothing. Returned the MB to SUPERMICRO as DOA with description of problem. After the usual wait they returned it with explanation - Problem described could not be found, board powered normally. BIOS updated.
.
Haven't yet had the time to put it back in, but I think I know what the result will be. I'm not missing something obvious here am I? Could it be my PSU even though it powers the old MB just fine?

It may not have an 8 pin cpu connector but it does have a 4 pin cpu power connector up top which needs to be plugged on for the board to work.

Well Duh, feel kinda stupid now. I remember looking at that socket more than once and thinking it was a speaker header for some unknown reason. That's what I get for assembling with little regard for use of the manual. Thanks for taking the time to read it John!
