hi, as you can all see, i'm new here. just want to say hello to everyone.

anyway, i have a problem with my new computer. i'm not entirely sure of the setup but here are some of the components:

asus p4c800/p4p800 (not sure which one but its one of those two for sure)
pentium 4 2.8ghz
1 gig ddr ram (dual channel)
ati radeon video card of some sort

i was playing need for speed underground 2. i've been playing for a good 40 minutes already and suddenly, the computer just shuts off. it was very warm around the case and so i opened the case so it would cool quicker. the computer never turned on again. when i hit the power switch, you see the lights come on for a split second and it goes out. it happened 2 different times where i can atleast get the light at the front of the computer to come on but now it doesn't even turn on at all.

right now i am thinking it might be the powersupply or the mobo thats screwed up. what are your thoughts?

thanks in advance.

i bet the MB had 'died'!
i had this problem before!
for confirmation i advice you to test you power supply!! or your jumper lost!!
unplugged your jumper and plugged again!

It is not the mobo, I have had the same thing happen, but with painkiller. The PSU had popped its fuse and just died. It is most likely the same exact thing with your's, if you open the PSU (be careful) and look for the fuse you should see it as a black charred one, insted of a normal one.

Something like CPUz will tell ya (www.cpuid.com).

Could be anything from:
- Dead CPU (unlikely)
- Dead Mobo (unlikely)
- Dead PSU (quite possible and my suspicion)
- Dead memory (possible)
- Mechanical failure leading to a failure of some of the above devices (i.e., a cable popped off or soemthing broke etc)

thanks guys. it turns out that it was a blown fuse like lord antrax said. i replaced the fuse and it still blew and under further examination, i fried a chip or more in that PSU. luckily everything else is okay after installing a different power supply. seeing that this temporary PSU is rated 50watts less than the one i blew, i think i should stay away from some crazy eye candy games for a while. :P

LOL typically if you do something to a PSU enough to set off the fuse its a good idea to replace the whole thing :)

1. Never replace a fuse like Praetor said
2. I am also using a 250W insted of a 300W like the old one (higher quaility though)
3. Buy a new PSU ASAP, even if you stay off the intense games, the smaller wattage one may blow just as fast.

Yeah in many cases, older systems dont ever use more than 230W of actual power ... the bigger rating is more for line stability and bootime juice :)

yeah man, you seemed very excited about his hardware being destroyed!
take a pill...like Xanex. :P

i hate to break the news, but it could very well have fried both your mobo and PS. I had a POS PS(i'm creative :P),which was an Orion(they hurt my balls) and it went out and got my mobo as well. Be sure to get 'em both checked before you start ordering or RMA-ing. Wouldn't want to have 2 problems and just address one...it sucks not to have your comp. :)

I've confirmed with myself that I am the most stupid person on this forum that continually posts...so ask someone else too.
