New memory

not really i dont think i suppose in theroy it takes a split second longer for the two 1gb ram to start as its got to run as two sepprate units (correct me if im wrong)

Thats what i think any way

Any advantage in using one DDR2 2 GB memory card VS two 1 GB memory card?
None; it would actually be better two have two identical sticks so you can run the memory in dual-channel for double the bandwidth.

Another question,

I set this computer up about 2 months ago. When I did I tried to run 4gb of memory and it was very unstable so I cut it down to 2gb.Runs really well as it is but we always want more right?

I found some 2x 2gb memory pretty cheap and was going to try them.

Any reason why this Windows XP SP3 based computer ran unstable with 4gb?When I say unstable it was rebooting itself after 20-30 min or freezing up and needed to be rebooted.Cut it back to 2 gb and runs like a champ.

Here are the specs

Mainboard : Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2666 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : Nvidia Corp GeForce 8400 GS
Hard Disk : SAMSUNG (250 GB)
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3

If its 32bit then it could be a issue of the fact 32bit only alows 3.25 of the 4gb. This might be why it reboots...if you run just 1x2GB stick does it still happen?.

I think if it does you should look into a 64 bit XP or make the leap to Vista...your PC is well above Vista Ultimate standards.

It only becomes unstable after I add the 3rd gb to the OS.

I cut it back to 2gb because it seems to give the best of both worlds...fast vs stable.

I am not a big fan of vista but with 4 gb they seem to run pretty smooth.I may partition a drive for Dual boot and see what happens with vista.
