New MOBO, 8 Yr Old RAM

I was wondering if new motherboards these support memories that are manufactured 8 years ago.

More specifically, is the memory compatible with my motherboard (both listed below)?

Motherboard: Evga FTW
Memory: Click Memory

If you are wondering why am I doing this, I am doing this because my memory will not arrive on time for my friend's brother to pick up to deliver to me. I have a computer that is 8 years old and its purpose was to play Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos with, but I do not use it anymore (other than for browsing and writing reports/documents).

Thank you in advance for you input.

(I was going to do the same with the VGA, but it was a 4x AGP and it is not supported by today's MOBO. Luckily, Evga GTX470 was in stock early this week and will be delivered on time for my friend to pick up.)

Sorry to say, the memory is too old to be in use. But when your other components arrive, it will be one heck of a pc depending on the other components. Just hold on till then and it will be worth it :)

Not to mention that is only 512MB, you should have at least 4-6GB if you are building a new system. The price for memory is also pretty cheap.

Thanks for the input. I have to wait 3 weeks if I decide not to purchase another set of RAM in addition to the 4 GB RAM that is being shipped home instead of my off-campus address.

Yep, the memory you had was DDR, your new board takes DDR3. They have a much different interface.

Darn, I was hoping that the hardware would be backward compatible so that I could use it. Anyways, I have not seen a DDR2 RAM or try jamming a DDR stick into the newer memory slots. So, I would not know unless I read up on it. :)

Thanks for the reply.

Yea... the 512 MB is only for temporary use if it works [until I pick up my 4 GB memory stick]. I have a 4 GB RAM (2x2) being shipped to my home address. If my friend's brother leave before my memory sticks come, then I will be left without RAM. For another set of 4 GB RAM, it would cost me $100. It would be an overkill to have 8 GB worth of RAM (I would not be making much use of them).
