i had a prior custom pc RZ SERIES MOBO AND ATHLON XP 3200 which i built but out of no where it stopped turning on so i replaced the old tower and mobo with a

FIC K8 -800T MOBO
WITH A SEMPRON 3300+ CPU i got 3 COOLING fans in there i upgraded the tower.

AND I ADDED MY PRIOR HARDDRIVE MAXWELL DIAMOND 160GB
AND 512 MB RAM

I HAD MY OLD WINDOWS RUNNING ON THE NEW PC AND THEN IT KEPT RESTARTING KEEP IN MIND THE MOBO AND TOWER ARE MAYBE 30 MINUTES NEW FRESH OUT THE BOX ANY WAY ... i reinstall windows and formatt my hard drive but now my new pc keeps freezing every 15 minutes or when ever i multi task it freezes can some one help me figure out what the problem is?

Did you get a new power supply? That could of been your previous problem. You upgraded RAM? Could be fauty ram(yes, new RAM does come faulty at times)

quick question about memtest86 is it a standalone windows app?
or do i have to create a bootable disk to run im having some trouble running a test and installing

heres a error report my pc just restarted

C:\DOCUME~1\major\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER78e4.dir00\Mini100506-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\major\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER78e4.dir00\sysdata.xml

Mine says that too somtimes.

Anyway... here is memtest86 in the zip file, what to do is burn the image to a CD, restart your PC and get it to boot from the CD.

and i failed to mention that i have a generic videocard and prior to my other pc blowing the screen was always getting lines threw it i get these freezes when i multitask or scroll to much i dont know if that could be effetcing the freezes the generic 8$ videocard

funny my old tower and mobo actually turned on and powerd up just now and are running fine while i was trying to test my hd and video card and ram i have it running its been on for a good 1 hour with out turning of i dont have windows on it though so i dont know how far it will hold with a os. i dont know if i should put my old stuff back in the new tower but my old one is the reason i got the new one because it wouldnt turn on . but when i took everything out it ran fine. i hit the hard drive and it turned off earlier when i hit the h/d wire then it wouldnt turn on so i unhooked it all once again and then put it back in and it powerd on fine. now i have a brand new mobo and case and processor and it freezes up on me and my old tower and mobo which wouldnt power on out of no where powers on when i remove the h/d ,ram and video card .

im thinking i should go and buy new ram ,video crd and harddrive and put them in the new tower. .. my power supply appears to be fine and was tested at compu usa . i need some suggestions so keep the thread updated if possible

try to have 1 thing in at a time, like the vid card, then the ram, then the hdd to see which one is corsing the problem. If it runs fine with just the one of them in, start adding more to it. If you have 2 sticks of ram, add one at a time. Also it maybe the grafics card (being only 8$) going, because i have 2 nVidia GeForce FX-5200 grafics cards and one courses crashes on my old PC because it was going, but the other one is still fine. Try to use the interigated grafics. Make shore that when you use AGP graphics, disable the interigated graphics in the BIOS.

theres no intergrated video card only because i didnt choose it with the motherboard ...but do you think i should just consider getting a new hard drive ,new ram, and new graphics card ...the tower and mobo only ran me some where under 150$ i figure i get another 200$ on ram ,hd and graphics card and its like getting a new desktop for around 350$.

im not a gamer i use my pc for audio editing and using a app as a host with my external hardware intented for music production.

for audio editing and vidio stuff, you will need a good processor and at lest 1gb of ram and a mid class video card. you dont need a new hard drive unless you want more space.

last time i had an issue with pc freezing constantly was because of the motherboard, i've put part by part, swapped em all and they all worked fine, try an upgrade to BIOS// and as far as the memtest goes, i hear it should be ran atleast an hour

how to i upgrade bios?..

i got the mobo and tower fresh out the box and put my hard drive and ram and video card in was i was suppose to configure anything in cmos or bios prior?
