New Modem Won't Get Me Onto Internet

Hello, hello,

Not too long ago, the lightning paid my old ESS modem a visit. Needless to say, this was the end of the road for that modem.

Recently I got myself a new CNet dial-up modem.

I thought that everything would be hunky-dorey, but saydly, things are not... I cannot set up my internet connection.

I firstly removed the old modem drivers, and then installed the new ones.

Then I took the following path:

Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections>Setup>Next>Connect To The Internet>Set Up Manually

And then here is where the option to set up a dial up connection is like faded out (i.e. I cannot choose that option). Only the option to set up a broadband connection can be chosen.

Please help me to fix up this issue. :(

Thanks

P.S. I did query the modem, and it is detected by Windows.

I even uninstalled the modem drivers again during the week, and put the PC off for like 5 minutes, and when Windows XP started up, it detected that the modem drivers were not installed, and asked for them to be installed.

Nope, no plugs misplaced.

The thing is, it seems as though Windows can't pick up the adapter for some reason. I even queried the modem, and that works... O_o

Go to Internet explorer. Tools, Connections and make sure its not set to LAN

Also sometimes setting up a new modem is a pain..

Take the modem out, turn on the PC, go to modems, remove all modems
that say are installed in Modem setup.., turn the PC off, reinstall the modem, MOst generally windows will find the modem upon startup, Put the drivers CD in, It will find the drivers.. If it doesnt locate a new modem.. Then after windows has started.. And everything is loaded, go to the start menu, control panel, modems and let windows look for a new modem. If it doesnt find one there, Then you have com port problems.. Go to start menu, system, device manager, ports com and lpt. If you only have com 1 and 2, You may have to add 3 and 4, Go to add hardware, When asked if you want windows to look for new hardware say yes, If it doesnt find your modem, Then close it. Reopen add new hardware.. When asked if you want it to look for new hardware say no... then continue, Scroll down to ports com and lpt, click there. Click add communications port, after you will be asked to restart the computer.. If it doesnt find a modem, Then click modems in control panel, Click find your modem, If it doesnt find one.. Add one more com port.. do everything 1 more time.. If that doesnt work.. Imma take a chance and say that the lightning paid more than a visit to you modem.. mebbe fried your communication ports all the way around..
