New motherboard problems

Howdy do. I'm new to the forum so sorry if this has been covered before.

I just got a new motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ CPU, I also got a Radeon 9800SE AGP card. I have 512MB RAM. I got the motherboard installed but had to completely reinstall windows XP from a CD. That was a bummer. Now I have downloaded as many new drivers as I could (and installed them) and I got all the various windows auto updates. I installed a pair of games and fired one up. The game ran until I was at the loading screen just before the game starts... and then froze up completely (couldn't get to the task manager via ctrl-alt-del). I tried again. Same result. Other game. Same result. After that at two seemingly random times the computer has just frozen up.

At one point I got a message suggesting I should install a vga driver or video control device when I was installing the latest Radeon Catalyst 5.1 drivers. That installation couldn't be completed succesfully. I went into the device manager control panel and ascertained that I have no video control device installed on my computer, but am uncertain what getting one entails. I did a google search but couldn't find anything new or even recent, all the vga controllers seemed to be for older versions of windows.

I suspect that the games are unable to initialize some video control device or another that doesn't exist. I should work on that. But I am confused and horribly angered by the fact that the computer has frozen several times for no apparent reason. ANyone know why this might be happening?

ok this is really werid but i just received a notification stating that i had new hardware on my computer and it was VGA software. so i think there's vga software compatible for your system.

I have a couple of questions though...

-What version of Windows XP did u install on your computer?
-What do you do when the screen freezes... just power down the computer manually?
