I am certainly a novice when it comes to putting computers together. I have had a good friend build me a nice gaming PC, it was great back in 2012 but with the newer games coming out I need to upgrade bad. Not knowing what to do I ask a friend I talk to online about computer parts and he talks a lot about a graphics so I i buy a GeForce GTX 980 and install it myself. To my disappointment and waste of cash it didn't do much.
Fast forward 3 years the new games are coming out and I run then so bad. For instance, Battlefield 4 runs wells for some time then a lag spike hits and gets me about 10 FPS for about 5 minutes and this happens every 10 minutes. I look at Task Manager to see my what the problem is and my CPU is running at 99%!!! This happens for almost every new game Battlefront, Total War, GTA V, ARK: Survival Evolved, etc.
I finally decide to do something about it and buy a "Intel i7 4790k" processor. It arrives and I open up my PC box and take apart the the fan and carefully take out the processor. The processor I use is an AMD and its on a "Gigabyte" motherboard, which only takes processors with prongs on the bottom(The new processor was not compatible with my motherboard). I was livid, stuck everything back together and took to the internet.
I debated on what to do get a new trash AMD processor or get a new motherboard for my new $400 processor, and now I have decided to buy a new motherboard.
So my question is: What steps do I need to take when putting a new motherboard in? What software? Do I need a new hard drive? Do I need any new components on the inside? All I want is this to get this new processor in and play the new games and I cant do that if I don't have the right motherboard.
My Specs:
GPU: GeForce GTX 980
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor
Memory: 16.00 GB of Ram (15.98 Usable)
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro(64 Bit)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, TJ
