New Nvidia Technology

I ordered 3 gtx 480s, then the next day the 580 was out so I canceled my order. I was going to get 3 580s then but I started thinking I don't know that they are that impressive. See the jump I saw from my 295s to a 480 on the benchmarks seemed significant. Then there didn't seem like enough change in the 480 and 580 to warrant the upgrade. Now, I know that the 580 is better so its like 'whats the problem' but I don't want to rush it now in case something does come along. I don't keep up with all the release dates and past releases. My question is: Based on past experience, or current knowledge, would you expect a better card to be produced this year? How soon? Is there something like a standard release every 2nd quarter or something like that? My 2 295s are obviously plenty but I was going to upgrade to dx11 so I want to make sure I get what I pay for.

295's are a dual-gpu card right? Nvidia should be releasing a new dual gpu version of the gtx580, called gtx595, before long. The goal being to compete with Radeon's upcoming dual-gpu 6990, both of which should be out in first quarter at some point but I haven't heard an exact release date. Hopefully, someone else here who knows something can further comment. If you're looking to replace that 295 with their next generation technology, it's looking like the upcoming gtx595 will be the card to get. There's scattered info across google, but here's something on them:

Thanks, I haven't looked at the links yet but will shortly. That is exactly what I was looking for tho in the response! So thank you very much! Yes my 295's are dual gpu!

i believe nvidia is releasing there gtx560 when AMD releases there 6990 which is at the end of this month.

recently there wasn't even any real indication of NVIDIA working on a dual-GPU based GTX 400 and 500 series cards. With ATI's mighty HD 5970 still standing up proudly on the graphics card performance podium after more than six months, it's been a long time coming for NVIDIA to answer.People thought that there was going to be a dual-GPU in the 400 series which was going to be the GTX 490(two GTX 470's) but they were never released.but there was some in development by companies as ASUS,Galaxy and a few others but never released.however, there will be a dual-GPU coming out which is the GTX 595,it will utilise a pair of GF110 GPUs linked by an NF200 bridge chip.some rumours suggest that the card may employ the inferior GF114 GPUs rather than the GF110.have to wait and see.release date:Q2 2011, rumors.
