New OS Install

I currently have my computer setup with Windows 2000 Pro on the C: drive and all the programs on a separate hard drive, drive E:
I want to upgrade my system to XP after I install a new motherboard. My question is...How do I get XP to see the existing programs on the E: drive? Do I have to re-install all the programs? Or can I just remap them?

Thanks,
Hammer

Yes you will have to reinstall the programs.

^^ correct if your meaning programs such as IE, firefox, antivirus, etc.

if a program does not make a key in the OS registry then you can simply hook up drive E: as a slave and copy the files in the appropriate folder (usually C:\program files) and then make a shorcut on the desktop or start menu if u want.

I am not sure if this will work, but you could try taking a backup of the registry using some software, then on the new OS import the registry. However, this could create many problems, such as software that is not compatible with the new OS, and there is probably going to be some general changes in the registry in the new OS, so i'd advise you save a backup of the new registry first. I would also advise for you to scan for registry problems if you do do that, if the software has that function, and then fix them.
